Click here to see a video of the birth. Morning's filly was born at 3:45 AM on April 7, 2008 after 341 days of gestation. The birth was quick and easy, but the next day was tough.

Meet Painted Sun's Golden Slipper. We call her Cinderella!

Baby was weak and seemed to have some oxygen deprivation. This can happen with both big and miniature horses  and the foals recover, but they need assistance until they do. We added Probios and Pancake syrup to milk that we had taken from Morning. This gave her an added boost to keep her going.  Every hour, during that first day of life, we got her up and encouraged her to nurse. Thankfully, she began latching on by herself by evening. If she had failed to do this, we would've been getting up every 2 hours all night long.

We can already tell that her face will be very dished with large wide-set eyes. She has a remarkable face!

Her name is Painted Sun's Golden Slipper or "Cinderella." She is TINY. Her cannon bones measure only 6-6.5" which means a mature horse of 26 to 28 inches tall. Click here to see how to predict the mature height from cannon bone measurements.

Every night, I have to put this filly to bed. Cinderella loves to snuggle up next to you. Some babies, colts especially, push against you in a disrespectful way. When "Ella" snuggles, there is no forceful pushing, just complete relaxation.
